BALINESE COMMUNITY OF QUEENSLAND INC.
The Balinese Community of Queensland Incorporated (BCQLD Inc) is a non-profit multicultural community, which has been established in Queensland for approximately 7 years. In recent years, the community has through the dedication of its members continued to demonstrate its commitment to building a stronger multicultural community group. We have done this in a number of ways but primarily by establishing formal recognition of the community through performances for various nongovernmental and government bodies. This has allowed us to achieve our objectives of enhancing and developing stronger interest in Balinese and Indonesian arts and culture throughout South East Queensland.
The community’s primary focus of practicing and performing traditional
Balinese music and drama has lead to the formation of the only Balinese
Gamelan orchestra in Brisbane along with a variety of assorted traditional
uniforms and costumes. These instruments and attire provide a means
for the community and members to observe, perform and learn the unique
and beautiful music and drama from Bali. As a result, the Gamelan has
become the central medium for bonding, motivating, and inspiring our
community and others to continue developing and maintaining Balinese
traditional music and drama in Brisbane.
