Australia Indonesia Arts Alliance announces the arrival of
Musician in Residence from Bandung, West Java
Australia Indonesia Arts Alliance (AIAA) is pleased to announce the arrival
of our 3rd annual Indonesian musician’s residency. Following upon the
success of the 2003 residency of Efiq Zulfiqar, and the 2002 tour of Wahyu Roche,
this enriching cultural exchange programme continues with EFEN JAENUDIN’s
3-month teaching and performing tour of Australia.
EFEN is a multi-instrumentalist and composer who grew up living, breathing and studying traditional Sundanese music in his hometown of Bandung, West Java. A graduate of the two most prestigious music academies in his region, EFEN joined the renowned Sambasunda World Music Group and has performed at major festivals, concerts on radio and tv throughout Indonesia and overseas. Sambasunda has graced the stages of WOMAD festivals in Europe, the Rainforest Festival in Sarawak, performed for the President of Indonesia in 2002, and recorded and collaborated with international musicians, theatre and dance companies.
EFEN’s activities in the Byron shire will commence with a 6-week Gamelan course beginning Monday 23rd August at St. Finbarr’s School in Byron Bay at 4:15pm. All are welcome, and bookings can be made by phoning the AIAA on 66 857 258, or 66 845 099.
You can hear EFEN perform and speak about his life and music on SUARA INDONESIA on BAY FM this coming Wednesday between 2 and 4pm. And, see EFEN & Friends perform Thursday nights @ Rice Restaurant in Brunswick Heads beginning August 19th.
