Rhythm hunting....

Hi all

For those that know and those that don't know, for the last 4 months I've been working away at organising a music concert being held at the Sidetrack studio theatre in marrickville on Saturday June 4. The event will feature the Rhythm Hunters, an Australian world music ensemble that fuse visually striking Japanese Taiko drumming with traditional West Sumatran folk music. The night will also feature special guests including Dr Riley Lee (grandmaster of the shakahachi flute) and Acehnese body percussion group 'The Suara Indonesia dancers'.

Pls see the attached flyer for more info & forward it on to anyone you think may be interested. Make sure you come along and check it out! Tickets are $20 pre booked and $25 on the door.

To book tickets please visit https://www.gigz.com.au/1001 or give us a call on 0418 658 129.

thanks
Sal xx

Byron Still Loves Bali update

Yesterday afternoon, I called Isaak Hukom, (one of the victims) & discovered there was a dinner held for the victims & their families last night. I went & met them though didn’t stay for the dinner due to other commitments. It was so nice to see many of their scars have healed well, although it is without doubt still a very obvious reminder for them.

The 2 ladies that we have helped recently are so thankful to us. One of them is Wati Sumerwati whom we helped with AUS$2,000 for her hospital fees during her operation in Germany. She has such a beautiful warm & big smile. Although she lost 2 fingers, she is now able to use her remaining 3 which she could’nt move before the operation. The other lady, Ibu Chusnul has just recently returned for another operation in Perth & looks great especially since a year ago. We helped to partly finance a motorbike for her to run the business in Java. I have some photos of her taken by April who is now in Germany.

Today, I met with Bambang whom we are supporting for his computer studies. I have asked him to write us a letter to voice if he would like more help for his studies. The reason I have asked him to write the letter is because he has a big keloid scar on his face that hurts him & he has already received 3 injections. I know those injections as I’ve had them before & they hurt like you wouldn’t believe! Anyway, he would like to get medical help for this. He mentioned he can live with the scars on his hands & arms although they QUOTE:’look like they're from horror movies”. This guy, Bambang is so modest. I will still have to see Bali Hati to discuss the accounts for Bambang. I will also be meeting Isaak next week. Problem is communication breakdown! I keep losing emails I have written & just as I get connected finally & write a few lines, the connection is off & I lose everything! GRRR! So now you receive Microsoft word! Hope you can open them.

Will stay in touch & let you know as much & as soon as I can.

Love to you all,

Lin Vanderstukken.

February 14, 2005.

Dear Inspirasi Newsletter,

I am writing in the hope that perhaps your readers may like to help our foundation.

Our foundation Yayasan Putri Bali is a newly founded non-profit organization aiming to provide financial assistance to the poor people of Bali who enter the Burns Unit.

You are most probably aware that the new Burns Unit which opened last July was built with funds from Australian Aid. It is a fantastic facility however the majority of patients that enter the Burns unit are from poor villages in the remote areas of Bali and they cannot afford treatment, drugs etc. These people who are admitted into the Burns Unit are usually critically burned due to an accident in the home such as hot boiling water spilt on a child or an explosive burn due to mishandling of a kerosene cooker. If the patient is not treated immediately, the chances of survival are minimal.

Our aim is firstly to have funds available for these patients so that they can receive the necessary treatment, drugs, operations, etc. but also to educate these people on safety procedures in the home through community service announcements on local t.v. and radio.

However, I must inform you our foundation is only new and we don’t have any connections to the burns victims of the bombing in Bali.

You can look up our website for further information www.yayasanputribali.com

We would be very grateful for any assistance you can give.

Yours sincerely,

Rena Suwitra.
Supervisor.

Contacts for Wayang Kulit

To Inspirasi Magazine readers,

I am currently researching Wayang Kulit practitioners in Australia in preparation for a short documentary/ animation work. I am hoping someone may provide me with some contact names in Melbourne and Sydney.

If you have the names and contact details of any Dhalang or companies here in Australia that I might interview, it would be most appreciated if you could forward their details to this email address or pass my details on.

Thank you very much.

Angela Mastrillo.
