Sumatralia goes wild
During 2004, Rendra Freestone from The Rhythm Hunters and photographer Andy Baker undertook a fascinating project called Sumatralia.
Rendra and Andy spent some months travelling throughout Sumatra recording traditional music and creating a photographic and video archive of the cultures that they encounted.
During Inspirasi Festival Andy exhibited work from Sumatralia at the Byron Arts Factory and also presented a slideshow of the Sumatralia Photographic Exhibition to accompany the performance of Rendra and the Rhythm Hunters at the Buddha Bar.
This performance also presented stunning dance performances by Alfira O'Sullivan and Jade Dewi.
Thank you to Andy Baker, Rendra, the Rhythm Hunters with Jade and Alfira, for presenting this wonderful and inspiring display of Sumatran culture.
Some of the images from Sumatralia appear below. Visit www.wildsite.com.au to view Andy's archive of photos taken in Sumatra.
