Peranakan Festival Planned in Jakarta
Another proof that Indonesia is heading full speed towards the establishmentof a pluralistic society is the recent announcement that aChinese-Indonesian Peranakan Festival will be staged in Jakarta during thefirst three weeks of November of this year. Incorporating special exhibitsat five museums in the city, every aspect of the impact and influence ofethnic Chinese culture on Indonesian society will be explored. The Fine ArtsMuseum will display works of art by famous Indonesian Chinese Artists; TheJakarta Museum examines the daily life of the Peranakan people; The TextileMuseum looks at traditional Chinese apparel; The Maritime Museum examinesrecord on the arrival of the Chinese in Indonesia; and the Puppet Museumwill organize a program of traditional Chinese Theatre including a GalaDinner and Cultural Show

The Sangkurian legend is an epic Indonesian folk tale from West Java.
The story is tumultous, as two gods are expelled from a heavenly place to earth where they are transformed into a dog and a pig. Once on earth, their encounters with humans encompass love, death, fire and volcanoes
Art works included in the exhibition describe the artistic and collaborative journey of the artists and are from the collection of the James Hardie Library of Australian Fine Arts

Rainforest World Music Festival
The Rainforest World Music Festival in Sarawak, Malaysia (on the islandof Borneo) is accepting proposals for this years festival. They arespecifically looking for indigenous performers from surroundingcountries and from the rainforest regions of the world for this year'sfestival. Small ensembles of no more than 5 to 6 people will be givenpreference, due to travel considerations, unless the performers canarrange their own travel sponsorship. Applications from the Indonesianprovinces are especially welcome.
