An Indonesian In Paris At Ganesha

An exhibition of celebrated Indonesian painter Salim entitled
"An Indonesian in Paris" will be held at the Ganesha Gallery at the
Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay from .
Expatriate in Paris for much of his long career, Salim received the BronzeMedal at the International Festival in Paris-Sud in 1971, the "PrixNational" at the International Art Festival at Cagnes-sur-Mer in 1972, andthe Silver Medal at the International Festival in Paris-Sud in 1973.

Titin Hartini at the Seniwati Gallery

Indonesian artists Titin Hartini's paintings will be on display for the

decorative figures as her main themes, Titin's paintings are richly

GENGGONG CD LAUNCH TUESDAY 22 MAY, 2001
You can catch Bulgarian bagpipes and Dervish flutes sparring with heavy metal gongs and turbulent Indonesian drums. Why not join the sacred and wild masked dancing on the dance floor? Come to the launch of GengGong’s debut CD at the Bar Broadway on Tuesday 22 May.

GengGong members have come together in Sydney from various recording and performing projects in Istanbul, Jakarta, Amsterdam and Adelaide to release this much anticipated CD. The album “GengGong” was recorded at the climax of their 15-concert tour of Indonesia last year.

The GengGongers are:

  • international cultural activist, musician and reformed rock star Sawung Jabo;
  • Balkan Gypsy groove-master Kim Sanders;
  • intricate polyrhythmic double-headed drummer Ron Reeves;
  • ethno-funk drumcussionist Reza Achman;
  • flutist/vocalist/gongster Angela Grima, and
  • Monica Wulff; ancient moves with a modern twist. Guest artist: Madame Long

Anggar Mekar Bhuana - Denpasar
Sanggar Mekar Bhuana is a newly formed Dance and Music Association, Based in Denpasar.
The gamelan offered are: semara pagulingan, pelegongan, joged bumbung, gender wayang, batel, and baleganjur.
Sanggar Mekar Bhuana promote the preservation of the traditional repertoires. They have antique instruments and the sound quality of the gamelan is first class.Sanggar Mekar Bhuana is a group of highly skilled, professional musicians (both young and old), who play gamelan music for the sheer pleasure of it.
The semara pagulingan saih lima / pelegongan group play only classic gamelan repertoires - pieces inherited from the ancient gambuh tradition and those composed by the likes of Gurus Lotring and Kaler.
Our pelegongan group is playing at this years Arts Festival on twooccasions:
In the parade on June 16 in the afternoon - appearing third.
On stage - tetaring 1 at 8:00pm on Friday July 6.
We are also proud to be playing in the opening of the Nusa Dua Festival onAugust 24 at 1:00pm.

Australia-Indonesia Youth Exchange Program 2001-2002
The Australia-Indonesia Institute invites applications from young people aged between 20 and 25 willing to represent Australia for two months in Indonesia during December 2001 and January 2002 as members of the AIYEP 2001-2002.

The program aims to provide wider opportunities for the young people of Indonesia and Australia to appreciate the culture, development and way of life of each other's country.

Participants are chosen from applicants undertaking tertiary studies or employed in any one or more of the areas listed below.
Agriculture/Arts, Music/Asian Studies/Economics, Business/Education/ Engineering, Science/Environmental Management/Journalism, Media/Law/ Medicine/Politics/Sports and Tourism.

A good level of Indonesian language is desirable.

Full details and an application form are contained in Advice to Applicants. Please read this advice before submitting your application.

Completed applications and documentation must be received by the Australia-Indonesia Institute no later than Friday, 29 June 2001.

The first International Carnival of the Arts.

For an entire month the city of Jakarta will be converted into a sprawling stage throbbing with the sight of visual arts and the sound of performing artists from around the world, with more than 300 events planned for throughout the month of June.

Sarawak's Rainforest World Music Festival 2001
From the 20th to 22nd July 2001

Singers and musicians from all corners of the world will gather in one of the world's oldest rainforestunder Mount Santubong at the edge of the South China Sea.

Musical workshops, mini concerts, jam sessions, ethnomusicology lectures, dance workshops and children workshops by musicians from around the world.

 A scholarly musical ensemble from Peninsular Malaysia, who explore the richness and diversity of Gamelan music through the Nusantara region, as well as its modern ramifications, will be among the quests.
