Surat-Surat

Banda Aceh patients in Brisbane for operation

Friday 6th April 2007. Hello Malia, My name is Judith Percy and I belong to a Rotary organisation called ROMAC (reaching overseas medical aid to children) Our organisation brings children from overseas to Australia in particular Brisbane. These children usually have birth defects, burns, or broken bones, etc. These operations are performed to restore their dignity but most of all their lives, which are very fragile, by the time they are assessed by ROMAC.

Shortly, 2 sisters from Banda Aceh, aged 8 & 9 will arrive in Brisbane to have their operations at the Royal children Hospital, burns unit. (Under the care of Professor Rory Kimble) One or both parents will probably accompany them. Their names are Regika Sari & Uswatun Hasanah Rasmidin. The girls are suffering burns contractures to their faces, hands & legs...

I am the Carer's coordinator for ROMAC and my job is to take the children to all their medical appointments to see Specialists, etc. any blood tests or x-rays etc. I also take them to Hospital for their operations visiting them regularly. I along with the ROMAC team pick them up at the Airport and take them to their caring families, if they are not present at Airport when they arrive.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance that you can provide to steer me in the right direction in order to find accommodation for this needy family who I do know are dirt poor. The Brisbane surgeon will perform their operations free of charge. The hospital charges usually come at a reduced fee. But all medicines etc will have to be provided by ROMAC we take up the costs for this. We actually raise the money to pay for these children from overseas.

Some years we have 23 or 60 children come to Australia from overseas, so you can appreciate that we are very busy organising these operations.

Looking forward to hearing from you with any assistance you can provide.

Yours faithfully,

Judith Percy ROMAC - Carer's Coordinator

I am forwarding on to you a letter we received from one of the Bali Bomb victims that Byron Loves Bali and AIAA have been supporting since 2002.

AIAA is about to launch its Major Fundraising Raffle for 2007. We have decided to donate 50% of funds raised to Ibu Chusnul for ongoing medical care. Please see her letter below and email back if you have a prize you would like to donate, would be willing to help sell tickets, or would like to buy raffle tickets.

Tickets will be $2 or 3 for $5 : The raffle will be drawn at the Launch of "Step into Ubud" at Byron Writers Festival on Friday 28 July. Prizes include A Weekend Pass to Bellingen Global Festival, Two Free Passes to Taikoz at Bangalow, 2 tickets to Sha Sha Marley from Ghana West, "Step Into Ubud" by Dr David Miller and "The Rainmakers Daughter" by Richard Oh and many others.

"Dear Mrs April First of all my apology for my late reply. Thanks to Mrs April, Mrs Lin and AIAA friends who have helped me restoring my health. Once again thanks for the 6 bottles of ointment which I received last December 2006 (provided by AIAA). At present my skin still feels itchy, especially after being under the sun or if I am not standing in front of a fan. My leg is very painful when I walk. I cannot do much at present because I don't have much money for medication. White goods such as TV and tape recorder and other furniture have been pawned and I used the money to see the doctor and alternative practitioner. It is only you, Mrs April and your friends who care for my life. Therefore from the depths of my heart I have to say that if I know a doctor who will conduct euthanasia, I would be very grateful. I have been living in pain and suffering. Mrs April and friends once again thank you very much for all your assistance and help. May God bless you all.

Love and miss you Ibu Chusnul Chotimah Sidoarsa Indonesia.
